Madison's September Ubuntu Hour
Please note that there was a time change starting in August. Ubuntu Hours will no longer be on Sundays, but rather on Saturdays.
Setting in OpenOffice.org messed up? Scared you're going to mess up your partitions?Heard you could get a free operating system, but not sure where to start?
You've come to the right place!
Ubuntu Hours are a time when new users can come and ask questions without being afraid they will be made to feel stupid by experienced users. It's also a time when you won't feel crowded out by other discussions. It may not always be 1-on-1 support, but it will be close and might even be a better ratio!
--------------------------------------------------------
As for Ubuntu Hour instructors, in the words of Ubuntu Loco leader Anthony Hook:
'It’s a pretty laid-back event with little expectations. If nobody asks one week, maybe you’ll talk to 4 people the next week. It’s a good time to get some coffee, catch up on some work, or just browse the Internet. I’ll probably even take pictures of where I am each week.
Please, don’t forget to document, tell us what you’ve been up to, when and where you are, etc.'
Also, while we want someone with significant Ubuntu experience there to help, don't be shy if you are a Debian or Fedora (or any other distro). There may be technical people showing up that are just new to Linux and Ubuntu may not be the best distro for them. Not a knock on Ubuntu in any way, it's just that as a LUG, we really shouldn't be presenting things as Ubuntu == Linux.
Please let us know if you'd like to help out! It's only a one-hour commitment and it's only once a month max and we've got plenty of people helping!
