Madison's September Ubuntu Hour

Please note that there was a time change starting in August. Ubuntu Hours will no longer be on Sundays, but rather on Saturdays. Setting in OpenOffice.org messed up? Scared you're going to mess up your partitions?Heard you could get a free operating system, but not sure where to start?

You've come to the right place!

Ubuntu Hours are a time when new users can come and ask questions without being afraid they will be made to feel stupid by experienced users. It's also a time when you won't feel crowded out by other discussions. It may not always be 1-on-1 support, but it will be close and might even be a better ratio!

As for Ubuntu Hour instructors, in the words of Ubuntu Loco leader Anthony Hook:

Digital Media and the Future of Schooling: A Look at the 2050 Classroom

Digital media, such as video games, social networking, and virtual performance spaces, is transforming how we teach and learn, both in and out of the classroom, reframing learning in terms of the production of new ideas, rather than the consumption of existing ideas. UW-Madison professors of Education Erica and Richard Halverson discuss how evolving digital media environments will result in powerfully different learning environments, blurring the boundaries between the classroom and the world beyond.

DrupalCampWI

DrupalCampWI is an annual conference organized by the members of the Wisconsin Drupal group. DrupalCampWI is an open space conference, in the style of BarCamp. While DrupalCampWI will have more pre-planning of sessions, the event aims to engage participants in an open, accessible learning community to improve our collective Drupal knowledge. Since this is a free event (and entirely volunteer driven), all we ask in exchange is your participation. This could include offering to lead a session, actively fixing something you notice is broken, helping out at the registration desk, bringing extra supplies (if needed), or as simple as picking up after yourself. This year's event will take place on Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th on the University of Wisconsin - Madison campus. The event will run roughly from 9-6 each day. We're hoping to have at least two tracks of sessions (one for coders, and one for non-coders), but that largely depends on the types of proposed sessions.
