Technology for Nonprofits & Communities is Madison Nonprofit Day's first effort to present a full schedule of technology and technology related topics that are accessible to and enhance both the nonprofits and the community. The workshops hopefully appeal to a wide range of individuals from nonprofit staff and volunteers to social entrepreneurs, accidental techies, students, and the community. Madison Nonprofit Day joined with Sector67 to create a community friendly, technology education day. The workshops are all ages, so bring your children and teens along.

Instead of the usual rhetoric and theory about the benefits of using social media, hear real-world, practical ways to put social media to work for your non-profit. We’ll skip the jargon and million-dollar corporate case studies to show ways in which non-profits can quickly and easily use social media tools to spread the word, raise funds, recruit members and achieve change.

While the debate on “whether or not your nonprofit needs a website has been settled and filed, the debate on which content management system (CMS) is still wide open. There are a multitude of content management systems (CMS), all offering various benefits for you and your organization. This presentation will discuss ExpressionEngine as one of the many CMSs for you to choose from. It will offer a brief comparison to WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal; tips and techniques on choosing a web developer, future proofing your website, and more. This Madison Nonprofit Day workshop is presented by Ben Seigel, exp designs. Ben runs the Madison Web Design & Development Meetup.
