League of Professional System Administrators Madison

LOPSA-Madison, like LOPSA, is dedicated to the advancement of the profession and practice of System Administration. Toward those ends, this chapter aims to facilitate building a community of local contacts for us to share our experiences, solutions, tips and techniques on addressing technical and professional issues we encounter. We are a platform agnostic organization, like LOPSA itself, and, as such, we welcome and encourage network managers, Windows and UNIX systems administrators, desktop support technicians, and anyone else that manages computer systems to join our community. LOPSA-Madison meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month. LOPSA membership is not required for attendance and participation in LOPSA-Madison, but joining LOPSA is strongly encouraged. We invite everyone in the system administration community to present topics from their expertise or experiences.

Wisconsin OpenSolaris User Group

OpenSolaris is an open source operating system based on Sun Microsystems' Solaris. It is also the name of the project initiated by Sun to build a developer and user community around it. OpenSolaris is derived from the Unix System V Release 4 codebase, with significant modifications made by Sun since it bought the rights to that code in 1994. It is the only open source System V derivative available. Open sourced components are snapshots of the latest Solaris release under development. Sun has announced that future versions of its commercial Solaris operating system will be based on technology from the OpenSolaris project.
